 s Orthodox Christian Church in Fort Collins will host a symposium on early
  Christian spirituality entitled “Wisdom from the Ancient Church.” The Nor
 thern Colorado community is invited to encounter the early church through 
 several presentations featuring Frederica Mathewes-Green\, best-selling au
 thor and expert in early Christian spirituality.</p>\n<p>The all-day free 
 event will include the following topics:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Icons: Windows int
 o Heaven (9:30am)</li>\n<li>Beauty in Worship (11am)</li>\n<li>The Jesus P
 rayer (1:30pm)</li>\n<li>The Spiritual Life (3pm)</li>\n<li>Mary\, Mother 
 of Jesus (4:30pm)</li>\n</ul>\n<p>In addition to Frederica Mathewes-Green\
 , Father Mark Haas\, pastor of the church\, and Sub-deacon Joseph Hill wil
 l also speak.</p>\n<p>Complimentary ethnic foods made by parishioners will
  be available as refreshments.</p>\n<p>The educational event will offer a 
 bookstore\, with times available for Mathewes-Green to autograph her numer
 ous books on the above topics. Her books include <em>The Illumined Heart</
 em>\, <em>The Open Door</em>\, <em>Facing East</em>\, <em>At the Corner of
  East and Now</em>\, <em>The Jesus Prayer</em>\, and <em>The Lost Gospel o
 f Mary</em>. Steeped in prayer and spiritual disciplines of the early chur
 ch\, Mathewes-Green calls Christians of all denominations to recover the a
 ncient treasure that is their heritage.</p>\n<p>In addition to her books\,
  Mathewes-Green is a regular contributor to Christianity Today\, First Thi
 ngs and other magazines. She has been repeatedly selected for the annual B
 est Christian Writing award. The multi-faith web magazine Beliefnet.com re
 gularly invites her to present the classic Christian perspective\, and her
  opinion pieces are featured at National Review Online.</p>\n<p>Mathewes-G
 reen has been invited to speak on aspects of spirituality at the Smithsoni
 an Institution\, Yale Divinity School\, the Chautauqua Institution\, the T
 homas Merton Institute\, the American Academy of Religion\, and others. Sh
 e has presented commentaries on National Public Radio and has been intervi
 ewed on television from Prime Time Live to PBS\, CNN\, Fox\, and most majo
 r news shows\; by the New York Times\, the Washington Post\, and most majo
 r newspapers\; and by Diane Rehm\, Janet Parshall\, and many national radi
 o shows.</p>\n<p>The day will conclude with a Vespers Service from 6 to 7p
 m. With the setting of the sun\, the liturgical day in the Eastern Church 
 begins with a beautiful service of prayer\, chanting\, psalms and hymns.</
