His Grace, Bishop Alexander and Priest Elijah Mueller, Director, will facilitate the program. The conference is especially designed for those who took the Late/Diaconal Vocations course before the present Diocesan program was instituted and who need to move forward with petitioning, those interested in beginning the program but live in an area where no local group has been established, those who want to participate in a diaconal practicum, and those who have taken courses within the program who desire to meet for further education and fellowship. On August 31, the St. Vladimir’s Seminary community will mark the ecclesiastical new year by gathering for a free, public lecture offered by Dr. Elizabeth Theokritoff.  A scholar and translator, Dr. Theokritoff has authored a 2009 SVS Press book in the “Foundations” series, Living in God’s Creation: Orthodox Perspectives on Ecology. The talk is sponsored by the student-led St. Herman’s Society for Orthodox Ecology, and will be held on campus. Dr. Elizabeth Theokritoff completed a doctoral thesis in liturgical theology at Oxford under the supervision of  The Most Rev. Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) of Diokleia, and subsequently served for seven years as Secretary of the Anglican-Orthodox Fellowship of St. Alban and St. Sergius in London. On-line course, “Choral Conducting for Beginners”
For the second year in a row, the Department of Liturgical Music of the Orthodox Church in America will be offering an on-line course, “Choral Conducting for Beginners,” beginning September 15, 2014. “The course is designed for beginners or those who are currently conducting a choir but have not completed a formal conducting course,” said Prof. David Drillock, department chair, who will teach the course. “The class sessions are devoted to demonstrating basic conducting technique, beginning with elementary conducting patterns and concluding with an emphasis on conducting liturgical chant. The 13th International Colloquium on Gregory of Nyssa will be focused on In Canticum Canticorum. This exegetical work belongs to the final part of Gregory’s life and can be considered an example of his mature thought and brillant preaching. The colloquium on this work will consist of lectures, workshops, and short papers. While the lectures and workshops will be delivered by invited scholars only, the short papers may be proposed to the organizers by any scholar who would like to submit a paper for potential inclusion in the colloquium.
