Museum of Russian Icons: Clinton, MA @ Museum of Russian Icons | Clinton | Massachusetts | United States
The exhibition illustrates the Christian traditions of the East African nation, Ethiopia. It features 60 small scale icons triptychs, larger icons and illuminated manuscripts. There will also be several cast- brass hand-held processional/benediction crosses with intricate designs for the Museum’s own collection as well as some small pendant/pectoral crosses worn by priest as part of their sacred vestments. The Museum has a small collection of icons and stone carved triptych which will be on display. The dates of the icons and objects range from the 16th century to the present. Ethiopian iconography is closely related to the simplified Coptic version of Late Antique and Byzantine Christian art. It is typified by stylized, graphically bold figures with large, almond-shaped, eyes. Colors are usually bright and vivid. Meocca – Minnesota Eastern Orthodox Christian Clergy Association invites you to a Lenten Retreat featuring guest lecturer Father George Dokos, Th.D.  Fr. George Dokos is pastor/priest of St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis (since 2014). On Friday, March 6, after the Akathistos/Salutations Service (6:00) and a Lenten meal, Father George will share examples of persons who turned their lives around, drawing from the Old Testament, New Testament and History of the Church, with a theme of “Great Returns—No One Is Beyond Saving”. The Kronos Quartet will perform a piece by Serbian composer Aleksandra Vrebalov “Beyond Zero: 1914-1918. One of the most celebrated ensembles of our day, the Kronos Quartet continues to expand the range and context of the string quartet. This concert includes a new work commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Beyond Zero: 1914–1918, an extraordinary multimedia production that features music by Aleksandra Vrebalov and a film by Bill Morrison. A native of the former Yugoslavia, Vrebalov’s work recounts her firsthand experiences in the war-torn Balkans of the 1990s, set against Morrison’s film that includes seldom-seen World War I footage from the Library of Congress.
