    Hellenic College, Logo

A two week immersion course is offered at Hellenic College, Monday through Friday

His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta and His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston have offered their blessings for this program. Dr. Anton Vrame, Director of the Religious Education Department for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, endorses the course and hopes to see it flourish.

Fostering the spiritual formation of Orthodox children means beginning as early as possible.  The classroom, called the Children’s Room, is a specially prepared environment designed to satisfy the child’s natural inclination to movement and to spirituality by providing hands-on biblical and liturgical activity.

The course provides adults with all that is necessary to set up a proper weekly program or a home school religious curriculum.

Catherine Varkas, Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, MA is Founder Director of a Nationally Accredited Teacher Training Center, and a Montessori Specialist.

    Urban Mission, 2013

How can I make a difference here at home?

In June 2013, St. Raphael church is hosting a hands-on missionary retreat to take on that very question. Held at the St. Andrew Center in Detroit, the retreat will focus on the church’s mission and ministry to those in need right here in our own back yard.

For high school, college, and adult Orthodox Christians and catechumens.

The faithful will stay in the historic St. Andrew Center in Detroit, Michigan, and pray and worship together, share meals, and fellowship. We will receive practical instruction in the Church’s mission and ministries for those in need, and work together on some projects in the neighborhood.

Many of our youth and adults hunger to experience missionary work firsthand, but only a small portion are able to go abroad. While there is important work to be done here as well as overseas, our suburban parishes find little direct exposure to our urban and rural poor and to the homeless. Located in Detroit, the annual St. Raphael of Brooklyn URBAN MISSION week provides an opportunity to not only learn about missions in an Orthodox Christian context but to participate in outreach here in our own back yard.

In addition to neighborhood projects, missionaries will attend presentations and discussion forums at the St. Andrew center with guest presenters.

    Georgian tour

GEORGIAN CHANT……..DISCOVER GEORGIA TOURS: Join us for an exploration of Georgia’s oldest monasteries, founded in the sixth century by Christian ascetics from Assyria. Be among the first westerners to rediscover the frescoes and acoustics of these ancient houses of worship set amidst rolling vineyards, towering peaks, and the desert vistas of the Caspian basin. Taste the exquisite Saperavi and Mtsvane home-made wines, grape varietals found only in the cradle of wine civilization.
