March 30, 2017 — The Board of Directors of the Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL) adopted the following Resolution at its recently concluded Board meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada: “OCL respectfully calls upon the Assembly of Bishops of the Orthodox Churches in the United States to publish all of the work of its committees over the seven-year course of its meetings, so that the faithful clergy and laity in the United States will be informed and have the opportunity to provide input that can assist our beloved Hierarchs in fulfilling the charge given to…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity George Karcazes and I were among the hundreds of mourners attending the funeral services of our departed brother in Christ and OCL board member and former President Peter Haikalis. The services conducted on March 25 and 27, 2017 were somber and joyful under the copper dome, extraordinary light and mystical iconography which characterizes the Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland, California. The setting for both the Trisagion and funeral was magnificent. Peter’s beloved Cathedral Choir added beauty and grace to both services. Peter was eulogized as a visionary by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco…

The sudden death of Peter is a shock for his family and friends, his Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL) extended family and his parish community of Ascension Cathedral, Oakland, CA. …

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity A ministry advocating Orthodox Unity in the United States with transparency and accountability in Church governance Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year.  One way to mark the beginning of OCL is by noting the date that a group of men and women who became its “founders” met in the living room of James and Mary Koulogeorge in Northbrook, Illinois. If anyone recorded the date, I’m not aware of it. Or, we can look at the date that the not-for-profit corporation was granted its Charter by the Secretary of State of Illinois.  The…
