Source: The National Herald By Antonis H. Diamataris The $15 million donation made by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to the St. Michael’s Home for the Aged that is under construction on Long Island in Uniondale, NY can only be described as transformational for our community. The Home is named in honor of the late Archbishop Michael of North and South America, who served from 1949 until his death in 1958. Thus, with this large amount – but also with the other amounts given by other members of the Community, including the $10 million donated by the businessman Efstathios Valiotis…

Source: Public Orthodoxy by Very Rev. Dr. Michael A. Meerson | български | ქართული | ελληνικά | Română | Српски The Board of Directors of St. Vladimir’s Seminary and, especially, its President, Father Chad Hatfield, must be commended for their constant labor to make the ends meet and thus to maintain the seminary. We must remember, however, that their seminary belongs at large to the American “eleven jurisdictions” and to the world Orthodox who entrust their students to it, and, last, but not least, to the entire Orthodox Church in America. So, it is perfectly natural to decide the seminary’s future in a conciliar manner. The most natural venue would be…

Source: Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church Port Washington, New York December 18, 2021 Beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Of all the events that I am called to during these busy weeks before the blessèd Feast of Christmas, I believe that today’s Liturgy – and the community that has come together for it – warms my heart the most of all. For over thirty years, this wonderful Archangel Michael Community has made the inclusion and participation of our most precious Church members a special occasion. And it is one that I am honored, as your…

Source: St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary We wanted to share with you a major announcement regarding the future of St Vladimir’s Seminary, included below. The Seminary’s Board of Trustees came to this decision after many, many months of prayer, deliberation, and work with multiple professional consulting groups. This will be anything but easy, as much history, many blessings, and many fond memories are tied to the Yonkers campus St Vladimir’s has called home since the 1960s. But the Board feels strongly this is the right course of action in order for St Vladimir’s to carry out her mission for future…

Source: St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary Hurricane Ida brought torrential rain Wednesday evening to the New York metropolitan area on the heels of a tornado warning and fierce winds, and the deluge that followed caused severe flooding unlike anything in recent memory. The campus of St. Vladimir’s Seminary wasn’t spared the storm’s wrath. The waterfall on the north side overflowed into the front lawn, ripping up pavement, trees, the community garden, the rock wall, and the fence. Troublesome Creek lived up to its name—both bridges over the Creek were uprooted and carried downstream. Meyendorff Hall sustained some roof damage, and floodwaters…

Source: Helleniscope by Lawrence B. Wheeler, B.A., M.Div. (Former Anglican priest, convert to Orthodoxy). It was a balmy summer day in midtown Manhattan when His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros stepped into St. Bartholomew’s Church. He was on Park Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets, where the grand edifice sits, imposing and Byzantine, yet dwarfed by the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. According to the Orthodox Church calendar, it was the feast day of Ss. Bartholomew & Barnabas, which fell on a Friday this year, the eleventh day of June 2021. The archbishop and his entourage had come to St. Bart’s, as the parish is…
