Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Karen Herzog Not unlike the Apostle Peter, the Rev. James Dokos betrayed his church. While Peter denied knowing Jesus, Dokos embezzled more than $100,000 from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa while serving as the parish priest. Dokos used the money to buy jewelry for his wife and to pay for lavish dinners and everyday expenses, according to court records. On Sunday, the start of Holy Week in the Greek Orthodox Church, the new leader of Midwestern Greek Orthodox parishes came to Wauwatosa to discuss betrayal, forgiveness, and trust — themes that particularly resonate with Christians this time of year. In advance of his visit, Metropolitan Nathanael Symeonides told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel…

Source: St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary This week we remember Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko (March 28, 1939-March 18, 2015), and give thanks for the enormous impact of his ministry and teaching in North America and beyond. As Archpriest John Behr said so powerfully during his homily at Fr. Thomas’s funeral three years ago, “How can one find the words—the appropriate words—to speak of one who was such a master of words? Fr. Thomas could speak so eloquently and so inspiringly—at length—in homilies and lectures, anecdotes and reminiscences; but he was a master story-teller as well as a master preacher and teacher.” I did not have the blessing…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity For thirty-one years, Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL) has been the voice crying in the wilderness.   The cry has been for renewal of our ancient, apostolic faith within our pluralistic, American, cultural context.  The hallmarks of this renewal are characterized by the de-tribalization of the separate Orthodox Christian jurisdictions that evolved here, so that they could work in canonical unity; administer the Church in ways that are accountable and transparent; and respect and include the input of the laity in matters of administration, governance and our journey together as a community of faithful.  OCL has not wavered…

The selection will be made from the Official List of Candidates submitted by the Archdiocese and authorized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. On the revised list, at the Patriarchate’s directive, beyond the celibate priests of the Archdiocese were added those metropolitans who serve in Ecclesiastical Eparchies of the Ecumenical…

Source: Estiator Magazine By Peter Makrias An announcement issued by the Holy Synod affirms the fact that the time has come for our Church in America to separate itself from the Ecumenical Patriarchate and declare its autocephaly. Based on its references to the meetings of November 27th and 28th, the Phanar considers us to be its subjects and takes us for little children. “During these meetings, all the issues on the daily agenda were reviewed and appropriate decisions were taken on all items.” But what were the topics on the agenda? What happened with the “triprosopon” list of three candidates to fill the…
