The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill led the opening of the International Congress of Orthodox Youth, organized by the Youth Department of Synod on November 18, 2014 in Moscow, reports The Christian Telegraph in reference to “Patriarhiya.ru.”

With the support of the Government of Moscow in the framework of the Congress an extensive cultural and educational programs for youth were implemented, themed booths and stands dedicated to different periods of the history of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church were organized, as well as master classes and a number of other activities. Before the meeting with the youth Patriarch Kirill accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow N. A. Sergunina, acquainted with the work of the thematic platforms.

The forum involved about 10 thousand people from all federal districts of Russia, CIS and also foreign countries. There were leaders of youth and social movements, experts in religious and social issues among the guests and delegates. The young volunteers got involved into work at the congress.

Patriarch Kirill addressed a speech to the participants of the congress.

Then, the Primate of the Russian Church answered questions of the representatives of the Orthodox youth organizations.

Bishop Ignatius of Vyborg thanked His Holiness for taking part in the opening of the congress on behalf of all presented chairmen of the Youth Department of the Synod and congratulated His Holiness on the upcoming birthday and presenting him with a basket of flowers.
