Source: Orthodox Christian Laity The argument presented to me by the Antiochian Archdiocese leadership is that Archbishop Demetrios cannot preside over the Assembly of Bishops of the USA, because he is an Exarch.  (See a reasonable explanation to the contrary below by Very Rev. Dr. Alexander Rentel, Assistant Professor of Canon Law and Byzantine Studies at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary).    The games must stop!  The bishops have the responsibility to make canonical the Churches outside the boundaries of the former Roman Empire.  Orthodox Christianity as presently organized in the so-called Orthodox Diaspora is uncanonical.  The Assembly of Bishops of the…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity Can it be that the First-Vice Chair of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, Metropolitan Joseph, may not attend the 6th Meeting that will take place in Chicago from September 15-17?  As of September 10,  he has not responded to the invitation to attend.  He has received special calls to obtain his response.  He is also chairman of an important committee on Pastoral Practices. Why is he not going?  He did not attend the meeting in mid-June at the Phanar in Istanbul with the other heads of committees who met…

Source: Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the USA The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America has released a new study today, “Exploring Orthodox Generosity: Giving in US Orthodox Parishes.” The 138-page report is accompanied by a brief summary that shares the highlights of the study. The study was prepared by the Assembly’s research coordinator, Alexei Krindatch. The study addresses religious giving of Orthodox Christian Church members to their home parishes and to wider religious causes and explores the differences in giving between members of various Orthodox jurisdictions and parishioners according to certain demographics. Based on its findings,…

In the first of these sessions, the Assembly’s 12 jurisdictional first hierarchs will have an opportunity to offer their comments on a proposal that has been prepared by the Committee for Canonical Regional Planning for submission to the Great and Holy Council in…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity Where is ANTIOCHIAN participation in the Assembly of Bishops in the USA and in Europe? Where is the participation of the Laity of the Antiochian Archdiocese on the matter of Unity?  Why have the many years of leadership – promoting Unity, the  legacy  Metropolitan Philip, been reversed by Metropolitan Joseph? Why do the problems of the Patriarchates in Europe and other regions have ripple effects on the work of the Assembly of Bishops in charge of the spiritual lives of the faithful in the United States? Controversy between Patriarchs of Antioch and Jerusalem caused a directive to…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 1, 2015  “… move beyond words to actions… putting our theology into practice… moving beyond what is mine and yours, to what is ours.” This important message was conveyed by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops at their fifth official meeting which was held in Dallas, Texas on September 15-19, 2014.  Unfortunately, the various proposals that were presented by the bishops defer the establishment of an autocephalous Orthodox Christian Church in the United States of America for at least another ten years. The Orthodox Christian Laity…
