Source: Orthodox Christian Laity Due to the pandemic restrictions, Orthodox Christian Laity’s 33rd Annual Meeting and Program took place online on November 13, 2020. We looked forward to the opportunity to be on the campus of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary as originally planned; however, the online events did allow wider participation by board members, supporters, and other interested individuals from any geographic location. The annual business meeting held on the morning of November 13, opened with a memorable prayer by His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel (see below) who is celebrating his 40th Anniversary of ordination into the Episcopacy. His…

Source: Orthodox Christian Laity The Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL) has been advocating for accountability and transparency in Church governance for more than three decades.  The success of OCL’s advocacy can be measured by the increasing use of those terms by Church leaders. While the use of those terms is now common, the practice remains elusive. An example of the lack of transparency and accountability in church governance is the embarrassing story of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA) and its tiny parish of St. Nicholas in Manhattan, whose building was destroyed by the Islamist terrorist attack on September 11,…

Source: The National Herald By Theodore Kalmoukos BOSTON – The construction of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine has already resumed according to Dennis Mehiel and Michael Psaros, chairman and vice-chairman, respectively, of Friends of St. Nicholas, who spoke to The National Herald during an exclusive and extensive interview. They also said that “the net cost” to complete the Church, interior and exterior, is $42 million, and they spoke about the fundraising efforts that are underway. When we asked if any financial irregularities took place during the first phase of the project and if so, by whom,…

Source: The National Herald By Nicholas Gage No one has been more disheartened than I have been by the unfortunate fate of the St. Nicholas Shrine at Ground Zero, which should have been finished two years ago at half the cost of what it will now take to complete it. Everyone who contributed to the delays and the ballooning costs – from the incompetent managers of the project at the Archdiocese to the slew of lawyers, accountants, contractors, suppliers, and designers – bear responsibility for the failure to complete the shrine on time and on budget. But despite the mismanagement…

Source: Serbian Orthodox Church As the ‎new roof starts taking its form, atop our beloved New York City Cathedral, the saving of Saint Sava Cathedral has truly begun. The principal steel roof trusses are now in place, bolted and welded, tying together the previously freestanding historic stone walls. With the imminent installation of the metal-deck roof covering – presently stacked on the roof framing and ready for distribution, as seen in the photos – the trusses will become further braced laterally, thereby contributing to the general stability of the building as a whole. There has been much preparatory work, of course,…
