Our central focus at St. Vladimir’s is preparation for ministry.
In March, we rejoiced in the ordination of three seminarians: Anoop Thomas to the Subdiaconate by His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, and Dns. Andre Paez of San Francisco, CA and Adam Horstman of Nicholasville, KY to the Holy Priesthood, by Archbishop Benjamin and Metropolitan Tikhon, respectively.
Other seminarians were busy over the spring recess, traveling to St. Herman’s Theological Seminary in Kodiak.
Third-year seminarian Fr. James Parnell and second-year student Sdn. Nicholas Roth accompanied Fr. Chad to Alaska, where they spoke to students at our sister school about ministering to veterans and military personnel. Both Fr. James and Sdn. Nick have served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, and their message was well received.
Lenten Meditations Available
We entered Lent in mid-March with our annual retreat and full schedule of services.
Our retreat speaker Fr. Chad discussed “three assured paths to spiritual renewal as we participate in the Great Fast: Mary and the Incarnation, the mysteries of Baptism and the Eucharist, and our vocation to mission.” Part one of his four presentations has been posted on Ancient Faith Radio, and the other talks will be available soon on the Voices From St. Vladimir’s podcast.
Looking (and listening) back on 75 years!
We are spending a lot of time these days digging through our photo and audio archives, and the findings are astounding.
Last year, Archpriest Steven Voytovich offered us over seventeen hours of recordings from Great Lent 1990, in prayerful remembrance of Fr. John Meyendorff, Dean of the Seminary from 1984 through 1992.
Fr. Meyendorff is prominently featured in these recordings alongside other faculty and student clergy. We’ve started to post Fr. Steven’s offerings on Soundcloud for your enjoyment.
Be sure to keep an eye on our Soundcloud account and the Alumni Facebook page for more gems from the archives, small remembrances of the many faculty, staff, clergy, laity and friends who have made St. Vladimir’s 75 year contribution to the service of the church possible.
