Toward the Image of God: Scripture, Formation, and Augustine’s Catholic Imagination
What might it mean that human beings were created “to the image and likeness of God”? Augustine wrestled extensively with this question through lenses shaped by his formation as a teacher and priest. We will follow the development of Augustine’s understanding of the image of God by attending to the diverse ways that he interprets and deploys scriptural metaphors and distinctions that slowly but deeply formed Augustine’s Catholic imagination
