  ZOE for Life! is a pan-Orthodox Christian charity with three major goals: to help women who need confidential emotional and spiritual support during crisis pregnancies; to assist Orthodox Christians seeking to adopt children; and to provide an education for pure living and other resources. The organization needs a variety of volunteers, including medical personnel, teachers and counselors, administrative and support personnel, and experts in the fields of fundraising, information technology and social media. The Dec. 5 program will consist of a series of training sessions on topics related to the organization’s mission. Registration for the program will begin at 9:30 a.m., training at 10. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. “The Age of Titans: The Rise and Fall of the Great Hellenistic Navies”.  This lectures is given as part of the  The Anita Krause Bader Lecture at the Missouri History Museum by Professor William M. Murray from the University of South Florida, Tampa. The phrase “The Age of Titans,” originally coined by Lionel Casson to characterize Hellenistic naval warfare, describes a period in which war fleets included larger-than-normal oared galleys, some with crews of more than 1,000 men. Dr. William M. Murray, University of South Florida, examines this period and proposes a new hypothesis in the evolution of naval warfare following the death of Alexander the Great. The Arizona Balalaika Orchestra began in 1980 in Tucson, AZ as a small ensemble within the University of Arizona Russian Department. The group is a spirited, non-profit community folk orchestra, playing native Slavic instruments and wearing colorful costumes. It has toured throughout Arizona and Mexico. At major performances, the Orchestra collaborates with guest dance troupes, vocalists, and guest instrumental soloists from as far away as Moscow and Kiev. Small ensembles also perform for festivals, churches, clubs, and other events. The Arizona Balalaika Orchestra is a member of the Balalaika and Domra Association of America (BDAA), which has annual conventions in North America and Russia. Tucson was host for this convention in 1989, and again 25 years later, in 2004. For more information:

The Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit (COCC) will sponsor a Christmas concert.  The first part of the concert will feature Nativity hymns and carols from Greece, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine sung by choirs from five Orthodox churches; and the Romanian Children Carolers, directed by Simona Ghilezan. The second part of the concert will feature Nativity hymns and carols sung in English by an inter-Orthodox chorus directed by Matushka Victoria Kopistiansky.   The Greek Institute invites you to the Sixth Annual Byzantine Christmas, a concert of virtuosic Byzantine Chant and the traditional Greek Kalanda for the Christmas season, directed by Spyridon Antonopoulos and sung by the Psaltikon Ensemble. Dr. Antonopoulos and PSALTIKON will be joined by Dr. Menios Karanos of Hellenic College / Holy Cross and acclaimed world musicians Beth Bahia Cohen (violin and lyra) and Mal Barsamian (oud and clarinet), in a program of Byzantine chants and kalanda, the traditional Christmas carols from various regions of Greece.
