We’ve all seen the Facebook and X posts about how many people came into the church at Pascha this year, and a lot of numbers have been thrown around. In this livestream, Matthew Namee and Dcn. Seraphim Richard Rohlin discuss the knowns and unknowns around conversion numbers this year, and ask the question: how much of an outlier was this year?
IMPORTANT NOTE: The distinction we made between Roman Catholic “candidates” and “catechumens” was based on information provided to us by a volunteer RCIA source, but was incorrect. In RCIA nomenclature, a “candidate” refers to someone being received from another Christian tradition who has already received baptism; a “catechumen” refers to someone being received through baptism. We apologize for the mistake, though it does not change the per capita numbers we were discussing since we were combining them already.
