[Youngstown, OH] Father’s Day has a whole new meaning for a Boardman man whose son gave him a one of a kind gift.Father Thomas Constantine of Saint John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church has been a part of plenty of Sunday liturgies, but the one celebrated Sunday is one he’s never going to forget. He stood side by side with his son, Eleftherios Constantine, as he became a deacon in the Greek Orthodox Church.
Growing up in the church, Father Constantine taught all the children to love God. Eleftherios always wanted to serve.
“From a young age, I always had an inclination or calling to do something,” said Eleftherios Constantine. “I guess serve the church in some capacity, but I didn’t know what that was at the time.”
Sunday’s ordination was a culmination of years of studying, which started at a young age.
“Going to seven years of school at Hellenic College/Holy Cross and learning about the faith at our Greek Orthodox School of Theology, learning dogmatics,” said Constantine.
Friends and Priests that served with him in Alabama made the trip to Boardman for the ordination along with family from Buffalo, New York.
While both men are committed to serving their heavenly father, the ordination happens to fall on Father’s Day, making it a truly unforgettable day.
“The best gift I could ever have,” said Father Constantine.
Father Constantine is proud of his son for going into the ministry, even though it means another move. Eleftherios Constantine is moving to New York and will be serving with Archbishop Demetrios in New York City.
