YONKERS, NY [SVOTS Communications] – During the weekend of October 11–13, 2013, members of the Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement (OISM) met at Saint Vladimir’s Seminary here for their bi-annual meeting, which included activities centered around the theme “The Christian Missionary Call: Local, National, and International.”

Besides students from Saint Vladimir’s, seminarians from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Brookline, MA; Christ the Saviour Seminary, Johnstown, PA; and Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY participated.

Their weekend included a trip to the Orthodox Church in America Chancery, Syosset, NY, where Archivist Alexis Liberovsky hosted a fascinating tour of the Archives. The seminarians also visited Saint Nersess Seminary, New Rochelle, NY, where the school’s Dean, Priest Mardiros Chevian, presented each student with a beautiful bound copy of The Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Church.

At Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, the students enjoyed presentations by Vasi Jankovich, wife of Seminarian Burke Vair, who highlighted upcoming opportunities on Action Teams organized by International Orthodox Christian Charities, and Priest Martin Kraus (SVOTS class of ‘02), rector of Holy Trinity Church, East Meadow, NY, who spoke about his ministry to the poor in New York City through the “Christian Kitchen” program.

“We had the opportunity to get to know seminarians from different theological schools in a setting of true Christian fellowship,” said Saint Vladimir’s Student Council President Sandro Margheritino, reflecting on the weekend.

The spring 2014 OISM meeting will be held at Holy Trinity Seminary.
