Countdown to the 6th Meeting of the Assembly of Bishops – Chicago Area High School and College Students will meet with Bishops

We are called to move beyond what is “mine” and what is “yours” to what is “ours.” From now on, this is how we should conceive and conduct all of our ministries and resources, all of our departments and initiatives. Otherwise, we do not practice what we preach. It is really up to us to accept the challenge or to refuse the call.”

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s Video Address at the Dallas Assembly 2014

During the months of August – September, we will keep you informed about preparations and issues before the Assembly of Bishops as they prepare to meet for the sixth time in Chicago, Illinois, from September 15-17, 2015.  The purpose of the meeting is to prepare a statement and plan for the development of a unified Orthodox Church in the United States.  The preliminary plan was scheduled to have been completed by June, 2015.  The draft plan was not completed, and a group of the Executive Committee, excluding representation from the Antiochian Archdiocese, met instead with Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul on June 16,2015.  Keep checking the Assembly of Bishops website (assemblyofbishops.org) for updates.

We are delighted and excited to report that high school and college students in the Chicago area will meet with the Bishops on Tuesday, September 15.  The Youth Activities Committee is organizing this event. Plans are in progress.  We invite the youth of the area to look for the information on how to participate and to ask meaningful questions.

Invited will be Orthodox High School and College Students from the Greater Chicago area to dialogue with a panel of Bishops following the Church Service on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2015, at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago.  The Jurisdictional Youth Directors will work with the local dean of the Cathedral and the Assembly of Bishops and the local Youth Directors to coordinate this effort.
