Source: Orthodox Church in America MANTON, CA [OCA] The “Ponderosa Fire”—one of more than a dozen spawned as a result of lightning on Saturday, August 18, 2012 throughout this region some 170 miles north of Sacramento—continues to threaten Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco Monastery here. [Read related story.] As of Monday morning, it had been reported that the blaze had already grown to 12,000 acres. Mixed reports have been received with regard to the monastery property, although many who wrote in to info@oca.org reported that, to their knowledge, the main monastery building has not been touched.
