New York, NY – On February 8th, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America convened the second virtual meeting of the Senators for Hellenism and Orthodoxy.  In his opening remarks, the Archbishop reinforced the responsibility and importance of the Senators: “As ex-officio members of the Archdiocesan Council, your counsel and guidance are invaluable. You are the institutional memory of this Archdiocese, and your experience, judgment, and wisdom are vital to our success and progress. … Your experience – not just of what has worked in the past, but what is poised to be the most healthful and expeditious internal regulation of the Archdiocese for the future.”

The meeting had three main presentations:

  1. Mrs. Elaine Allen and Mr. Lou Kircos spoke about the Finances of the Archdiocese and the Clergy Pension Plan.
  2. Mr. Michael Psaros, Vice Chairman of the Board of the Friends of Saint Nicholas on the National Shrine gave an update about the construction of Saint Nicholas.
  3. Mr. George Cantonis, President of the Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology made a presentation regarding the current status and progress the School is making.

After the presentations, His Eminence encouraged input from the Senators, as he will from others within the Archdiocese, with respect to the development of a new charter for the Archdiocese. Meetings of the Senators with Archbishop Elpidophoros will continue regularly in order to advise His Eminence on the various issues facing the Archdiocese.

  1. “You cannot serve 2 masters, because you will love one and hate the other” stated our Lord. Is the GOA a church or a Hellenic club? According to Jesus, you can’t be both.
